Installing or altering electricity supply to your property

If you need a new electricity service or want to alter or upgrade your existing setup, you will need to contact the distributor in your area. Each distributor has its own connection policy, which can be found at:

Finding an Accredited Service Provider

You must use a qualified Accredited Service Provider (ASP) to install or alter your electricity connection.

For new connections from the existing street mains you’ll require a Level 2 ASP. In some areas, you may need to use Level 1 and Level 3 ASP to extend the network to your property.

Customers can refer to the lists of ASPs that can be found in the links at the end of this page. There are separate lists for ASPs that provide different types of connection services.

Below is a brief explanation about the different levels within the ASP Scheme.

Level 1 – Extending or upgrading the local network

Duties of a Level 1 ASP:

  • Can extend the overhead or underground network to reach your property.
  • Can increase the capacity of the existing local network. This may include high and low voltage works and substations.
Level 2 – Service from the street mains to your property

Duties of a Level 2 ASP:

  • Performs work closer to your premises.
  • Can disconnect your premises from the network (class 2A).
  • Can install, upgrade and/or energise an underground service line to connect your premises to the electricity network (class 2B).
  • Can install, upgrade and/or energise an overhead service line to connect your premises to the electricity network (class 2C).
  • Can install and/or upgrade network devices, like Off Peak/Controlled load devices (class 2D).
Level 3 – Design of network extensions or upgrades

Duties of a Level 3 ASP:

  • Can design extensions or upgrades of the existing electricity network that supplies your property.
  • There are separate classes of Level 3 ASP for distribution of underground and overhead mains.

To find an ASP in the listings:

  1. Select Ctrl/Command + F on keyboard.
  2. Type the text you want to search for in the text box on the Find toolbar.
