The Far South Coast community solar and battery grants program will support the installation of solar and batteries on buildings and facilities used by community groups. This will result in lower energy bills and more renewable energy in the region.

Owners of buildings and facilities used by community groups in the Bega Valley and parts of the Eurobodalla Shire Council areas can apply for the grants.

$1 million worth of grants are available through a competitive application process, with a minimum grant amount of $10,000. 

Applications open 9am AEDT on 16 October 2024 and will close at 5pm AEDT on 13 December 2024.

The program is funded through the Australian Government’s Community Solar Banks Program in NSW, and administered by the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.  

Projects the grants cover

The grants will cover the installation of solar and/or battery storage systems in places that are used by community groups.

Eligibility

Who can apply

Only owners of buildings and facilities can apply for the grant. These include:

  • councils
  • not-for-profit organisations, charities, and philanthropic organisations 
  • local Aboriginal Land Councils
  • state government agencies may be considered eligible applicants only where projects will deliver a clear public benefit.

The owner will need to provide proof of a partnership with at least one community group which will benefit from the proposed project.

Location

The grants will be available to owners of eligible buildings and facilities in the Bega Valley Shire Council area and the southern part of the Eurobodalla Shire Council area. 

Eligible facilities must be in the following postcodes:

  • 2545
  • 2546
  • 2548
  • 2549
  • 2550
  • 2551.

Types of buildings

The grants can only be used for buildings and facilities used by community groups. Examples include:

  • community sports clubs
  • scout or guide halls
  • surf lifesaving clubs
  • welfare centres
  • Men’s Sheds
  • Women’s Sheds
  • community centres
  • showgrounds
  • community owned childcare centres
  • aged care facilities 
  • school halls.
