Expressions of interest are open for the metering and monitoring planning initiative
Understanding your business's energy use can help you reduce energy costs and lower emissions. You can achieve this by installing an energy metering and monitoring system, which will collect and use data to track and improve your energy performance.
How it works
Metering and monitoring systems are built using hardware and software that measure energy use on your business’s site.
These systems are an essential part of good facility management. They provide valuable data to measure and optimise your business’s equipment performance and support better management of energy use, costs and improved systems.
Metering and monitoring can help your business:
- operate your facility more effectively and improve energy productivity
- cut costs and save energy
- identify low-cost improvements to your systems and processes
- comply with regulations
- track and report your energy performance
- get funding for energy efficiency upgrades from government-backed schemes.
Getting started

Access to finance and government support
We’re investing $12 million to help NSW businesses maximise the benefits of installing an energy metering and monitoring system.
This metering support includes 3 initiatives to support each stage of your metering and monitoring journey.
Metering and monitoring planning initiative
We are supporting businesses to identify energy-saving opportunities and establish the case for equipment upgrades, by planning to install an energy metering and monitoring system.
Metering grants
Installing energy metering and monitoring systems is key to understanding and cutting a business’s energy use. We have supported businesses to achieve this by providing funding through:
- Submetering grants: co-funding up to 50% of the cost of purchasing and installing submeters on equipment, up to $20,000 per site.
- Metering plan implementation grants: co-funding up to 50% of the cost of implementing the recommendations from eligible energy metering and monitoring plans, up to $100,000 per site.

Energy performance services grant
The energy performance services grants will support eligible businesses to identify their next steps after setting up their metering systems and collecting data. This could include support for software platforms, data analysis or reporting services, behaviour change, and skills development to make the most of your data.
Grant applications are expected to open in FY24/25. Sign up to receive updates about these grants and be the first to know when they become available.
