About the Electric vehicle destination charging grant

Regional destination chargers are an important part of building a comprehensive public electric vehicle (EV) charging network across NSW.

We’re working to make NSW the easiest place to own and operate an EV in Australia, with a $199 million investment to develop a world-class EV charging network across the state.

The NSW Electric Vehicle Strategy outlines a $20 million investment in the EV destination charging grant program. This program supports the roll out of widespread public EV charging infrastructure at visitor destinations across regional NSW.

The NSW Government’s grant objectives are to:

  • overcome range anxiety and help create a world-class EV charging network
  • support destinations across regional NSW to be EV-ready
  • support the growth of the NSW visitor economy and the ability to cater for an increasing number of EV drivers
  • support the development of EV-friendly road trips across regional NSW
  • reduce emissions and accelerate our transition to net zero.

Changes to Round 3

Round 3 has some significant changes to previous rounds and applicants are advised to review the guidelines before preparing their application.

The third funding round will co-fund private EV charge point operators (CPOs) who can install, own and operate low powered direct current (DC) public EV chargers between 24kW to 100kW in eligible zones across regional NSW. This infrastructure will help supplement the existing growing network of slower AC destination chargers and ultra-fast charging stations.

This round will fund up to 80% of costs associated with EV charger installations, up to a maximum of $200,000 per site.

The latest round of the EV destination charging grants is now open and closes on Friday, 31 January 2025.

Get an EV charger located at your business

We know from our previous two funding rounds that an EV charger can put a business on the map for EV drivers. Literally.

More and more drivers are switching to EVs and they’re planning their trips around EV charging locations.

Having EV chargers can help attract more customers and increase their time spent at your site. The NSW Government are looking for businesses who are interested in hosting EV chargers in this latest funding round.
