The NSW Government is planning for a reliable, affordable and clean energy future. To achieve this goal, we are supporting a diverse range of new generation and storage technologies.
The NSW Renewable Energy Action Plan was launched in 2013 to increase renewable energy generation in the state at the least cost to the consumer. The plan has supported the increase from renewable sources while minimising costs to customers in NSW.
The private sector is helping realise the government’s vision of a market-led transition to a secure, affordable and modern energy system. Renewable energy is driving billions of dollars of investment, supporting thousands of jobs and diversifying income streams in regional areas.
In 2016-17, the renewable energy industry in NSW employed almost 4,000 full-time positions, an increase of 2,750 from 2015-16.

The NSW Government has developed a range of information to help industry navigate the renewable energy sector.
Provides greater clarity and transparency for industry and the community on the assessment process.
Gives industry and regulators guidance on the planning framework for assessment and approval of large-scale solar energy development under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (EP&A Act).
The NSW Government provided funding to the New South Wales Farmers' Association (NSWFA) to develop this guide for landholders who wish to host wind or solar farms on their properties. This guide has essential information that helps landholders negotiate mutually beneficial agreements with renewable energy developer. It shows how neighbours and local communities can also share in the benefits.
The NSW Government has a range of mapping resources which can be helpful when deciding where to locate a new project including the NSW Renewable Energy Map. For more information, visit the maps page.

It is advisable to contact the relevant transmission or distribution network early to determine if there is available capacity on the network in the location where you wish to connect. For further information, visit the page of the relevant network service provider in your region.
The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) provide funding and financing opportunities for new clean energy projects. NSW received around 60% of CEFC funding and over half of ARENA funding in 2016-17.
