Implementing metering and monitoring systems is a critical step to identify energy-saving opportunities and establish the case for equipment upgrades.
Metering and monitoring can help you unlock data about your energy use and:
- save around 5 to 15% in energy costs
- improve energy performance
- understand if electrification is practical at your site
- access government support for equipment upgrades.
The Metering Plan Implementation Grants are part of the $12 million metering package that supports businesses across the different stages of the metering and monitoring process. This will help NSW businesses overcome barriers to improving energy performance and help NSW reach net zero emissions by 2050.
Tip Top, one of the largest producers of bread and bakery products in Australia, took advantage of our previous program and upgraded its metering system at its Chullora manufacturing site. Daniel Barrett, the Operational Excellence Systems Specialist at Tip Top, said:
‘What really surprised us most were the unexpected places that we found energy savings… So far, we have measured a 6% decrease in annualised energy use… and are planning to roll out submetering systems for our 14 other manufacturing sites across Australia and New Zealand’
To learn more about how Tip Top reduced their energy consumption by installing submeters on-site, watch our case study.

A complex energy system typically includes a combination of:
- multiple processes e.g. refrigeration and heating
- multiple distribution systems e.g. steam and compressed air
- multiple energy types e.g. electricity and gas
- multiple end uses e.g. furnaces, freezers, pasteurisers.
